Winter storm watch issued; 5 or more inches of snow possible
The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for much of the surrounding area, including Frederick County, that will go into effect Tuesday afternoon and remain until Wednesday afternoon.

All Frederick County Public Schools are closed Monday, according to an alert sent out by the school system.

Snow plows, shovels attack storm's aftermath

Frederick County Highway Operations had major roadways at least one to 1 1/2 lanes open by Sunday afternoon.

Donnie Crum, assistant supervisor for the county highway department, said subdivisions in the county were expected to be plowed out by Sunday night.

"With all that snow, it is slow going at times," Crum said. The department had 100 employees working over the weekend and all of its equipment in use.

    Snowstorm presents challenges
    Frederick Mayor Randy McClement faced his first 1-foot plus snowfall nine days after he was sworn in to his first term. Now, he's been on the job less than two months, and he's faced two major snowstorms.

    The New Orleans Saints turned the Super Bowl's postgame celebration into something out of the French Quarter.

    From the trophy podium on the field, Drew Brees blew kisses and caught confetti raining down as Dr. John and Professor Longhair blared from the stadium speakers. Sean Payton hung over the railing clapping and shouting down to the crowd as if he were rolling on a Mardi Gras float, then waved a newspaper with the banner headline "WORLD CHAMPS."

    - MSM tops Wagner for 4th straight win
    NEW YORK -- Jeremy Goode scored 14 of his game-high 16 points in the second half to lead Mount St. Mary’s to a 66-50 win over Wagner on Saturday in the back game of a home-and-home series between the teams that extended the Mountaineers' winning streak to four games.

    COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) — Maryland coach Gary Williams was overcome by emotion, leaving him virtually unable to describe his feelings after watching the Terrapins dismantle North Carolina on an anything-but-typical game day. “We handled a difficult situation and were able to do a good job,” Williams told the crowd Sunday after Maryland beat the skidding Tar Heels 92-71.
